Proxy of Flux

For Ayesha.
Pure PhotoChop. Painted from scratch.
It is a BEECH to do linework with a 5x4 Wacom!
Getting done with my backlog.

I started making this when I had seen a few episodes of Ergo Proxy. I was struck by similarities between the two series.

Both heroines wear distinctive black outfits, hairstyles and firearms. The power-hungry amd manipulative Trevor Goodchld has an analogue in the equally ambitious Raoul Creed. The megalopoli of Bregna/Monica and Romdo are utterly isolationist and seem unconcerned with the world outside them. Strange creatures exists in both series; Æon has Demiurges and Seraphs where Re-L has to deal with Proxies.
Both stories could almost be happening in the same world.

I really enjoyed redesigning Æon's costume and gun. I had to shorten Re-l's gun to make it fit.

Harris-Ejaz, this looks like a great painting. very nicely done. i like the foreground/background separation, your utilization of colours and depth-cueing. the composition works as well.

however, i feel that the lighting on this is inconsistent between the foreground and the background (artistic freedom perhaps). The characters' poses/proportions/perspective could have been better as well. Also, she seems to be looking away at something else--out of the picture, which is not working for me. And the expressions could have used a better treatment to bring in more emotion into the scene.

But this is a very nice piece. Your rendition of hair, cloth is good, and the colour shading is very cool... looking forward to more work from you

Walkthrough's / details are always helpful for people who want to learn from you....

I had a very clear idea of what i wanted to do when started out this peice, including different lighting for the background and foreground to separate them. I fell i accomplished 60% of what i set out to do.

I agree about the expressions... i mean i think i got Æon's down perfectly, but i really struggled with Re-L. She's nowhere near as stoic as she looks here. See, Drawing with a tablet is hard, this is the best i could do.

this wasn't really meant to be an emotion-ridden scene. this was just cool for the sake of cool... unadulterated fanservice.

I wonder if it's easier drawing with a larget tablet.

Khair, thank you for liking it.

i know people who can draw just fine with smaller tablets as well. it's just depends on your own style and techniques. i upgraded from a 4x5 to a 6x8--anything bigger seems too big to me (and most artists that I have worked with say the same as well).

just out of curiosity, what is the size of the canvas that you draw on?

Yes, i think that a 6x8 is probably the perfect size for the way i draw; i'm all about wrist movement, my elbow stays steady. whenever i've worked on bigger i couldn't manage it.

See, you can sketch fine on a 4x5, but anytime i want to lay down a solid line it becomes unreliable.

This peice, Proxy of flux, it's 2200x2700px across. what i usually do is, i open an a4 size document at 300px and start sketching on it, and then crop when i'm sure what i want to do.

see, when i click edit, no choice to replace the attachment presents itself. i can't even see the attachment.

and there seems to be no way to attach an image to a normal reply like this one.

khair, updated version at http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/52163460/

nice work!
gotta agree with amaan on the proportions and the lighting...
especially the girl who's kneeling....her hip bone juts out a little bit too much...and her right hand seems too big.
but good work none the less.
cheers!!
